Establishment of an Integrated Water Desalination Plant
Campaign Objective : 0 USD

The Gaza Strip is facing a real water catastrophe, with less than 5% of water suitable for human consumption, while 97% suffers from severe pollution.
The ongoing war has destroyed infrastructure and vital facilities, leading to an unprecedented thirst crisis that threatens public health and warns of the spread of epidemics and contagious diseases among the population.

Implementing Entity and Location
Merciful Hearts – Gaza City (Omar bin Abdulaziz Street, next to the Delta Medical Center, established by Merciful Hearts in 2025).

Project Objective
The project aims to establish an integrated desalination plant in Gaza City and its north, with a production capacity of 15 cubic meters per hour, 150 cubic meters per day based on 10 continuous working hours, providing a permanent water safety net for 50,000 people daily in Gaza City and its north.

Project Justifications
First: The Severe Water Crisis
The Gaza Strip is suffering from an unprecedented catastrophic water crisis. According to international reports from UN organizations, more than 97% of groundwater in Gaza is unfit for human consumption. The crisis has recently worsened, with the per capita water share dropping to dangerous levels below the minimum global emergency standards.

Second: Families Relying on Children and Women to Fetch Water
The greatest burden of providing water falls on the most vulnerable groups; women and children are primarily responsible for waiting in long queues daily in front of water trucks to secure daily needs. The target location (city center next to the Delta Medical Center) also lacks any nearby water stations to meet the massive population density in that area.

Third: Destruction of Water Networks and Desalination Plants

Fourth: Weak Storage Capacity Inside Homes

Expected Impact of the Project (How will the project change the reality?)*
Massive Water Abundance:
Thanks to the production capacity of (15 cubic meters/hour), the project will provide water stability serving approximately *50,000 people* across Gaza City.
Supporting the Distribution System:
The plant will serve as a central point to supply water trucks and tankers that currently have to travel long distances far from the city center. This will directly reduce fuel consumption for these vehicles, thereby doubling distribution efficiency and increasing the number of final beneficiaries.
Protecting Childhood and Supporting Education:
By facilitating and reducing the time needed to obtain water, the wasted daily time will be saved, giving children a real opportunity to return to their normal lives and join the education system instead of spending their day in water queues.

 Technical and Operational Specifications
Plant Type: Groundwater desalination plant (RO).
Water Source: A new groundwater well to be drilled and equipped specifically for the plant.
Production Capacity: 15 cubic meters (15,000 liters) per hour.
Daily Production: 150 cubic meters (150,000 liters) per day based on 10 operating hours.
Operating Power System: Industrial electric generator with a capacity of 50 kW to ensure uninterrupted operation.

Number of Direct Beneficiaries Daily:
With a daily production of 150,000 liters, and based on international reports setting the minimum per capita share in emergencies at about 15 liters; the plant's capacity is designed to cover double the internationally approved daily per capita share (i.e., 30 liters per person), thus serving 5,000 direct beneficiaries daily, with its indirect impact extending to tens of thousands.

Distribution Mechanism:
1. Direct Filling Points (Taps Inside the Plant): To serve the general population within a 500-meter radius of the plant location (an area classified as one of the highest population densities in the world).
2. Distribution via Tankers: Part of the production will be allocated to fill available water tankers, which will then transport and distribute water to neighborhoods and areas more than 500 meters away from the plant center.
